The LeRoy E. Hoffberger School of Painting at MICA invites you to an exhibitionof works by the MFA classes of ’21 & ’22.
Amidst the ambient chaos of the last two years, these graduating and recently graduated painters have had to significantly reconfigure the ways they show work—that is, less often and to smaller audiences. In some small way, Vibrations hopes to begin to remedy this.
The works displayed reflect an intense connection to the ritual of painting, an act that a surprising number of the artists describe as spiritual. Other painters here project shadows of the hyper constructed contexts we increasingly find ourselves in. A conversation between the ethereal, ungraspable spiritual world and the architectureof digital and built space arises—the regular thumping rhythms of the machine erecting artificial structure around the improvised dance of the spirit sliding between the vibrating atoms.
Come see the paintings in natural light at our reception on Saturday afternoon14 May 2:00–7:00 pm, and then bathed in the glow of the setting sun and the Mellow Vibrations of musicians Seagrams, Nostos, and Bobby Woody on the following Saturday, 21 May 5:30–8:30 pm.
